the rabbit & turtle race

I knew there is gonna be a time lag before the heart finally catches up with the head. I know I am the one that made the decision, but the heart still felt like it was broken. Tears.

big vs small companies

Today i have a first taste of big company vs a small company.

i was on a FULLY packed GO bus on my way to an interview at a Healthcare center. The phone rang, but I missed the call. When I realized I missed the call, I called back just incase it was the Healthcare center calling to cancel or change the time of the interview. But somehow...it was from another company that I recently e-mailed (let's call it company P).

I wasn't given a proper introduction of who I was talking to on the phone when it was picked up, but told to hold on a minute and put on hold.

The second time the person came on again, she simply said..you don't have voicemail. To which, I promptly answered 'no'. I was still feeling perplexed as to who I am even talking to. I was told to hold for a minute. Fine.

Next time the lady came on the line again, she matter-of-factly said she was from P company and proceeded to ask me where I heard of the position and if I could tell her what I know about P company.

A lightbulb went off in my head. Oh...phone interview?

So I politely and apologetically told her that I was on a bus right now, so it is really inconvenient to talk.

Lady on the phone: oh...(pause) But you called back?

Me (trying to explain): I saw an unrecognized number on the phone, so I just called back to check to see who it is. Is it possible for me to call back later?

Lady on the phone: (paaauuuuse) ok, bye bye

Me (feeling worried I blew my chance): Would that be alright?

Lady on the phone: ok, bye bye.

I think I really blew my chance.

P company is a really big clinical research company that would be just the perfect fit for the kind of career that I am looking for, and chasing after since graduation. Yet, this 'Lady on the phone's attitude is beyond I could understand and take.

Nevertheless, I called back 'Lady on the phone' after I was done with my other interview.

Me: Hi! I am returning a missed call I had?

Lady on the phone: what is your name?

Me: (name)

Lady on the phone: oh, you are the one that I called in the morning, but when you called back you said you were on a bus?

Me: Yeah, that's me. So sorry for the confusion.

Lady on the phone: But I didn't call you just now, I called you this morning.

Me (kinda pissed off): Yeah, this morning.

Lady on the phone: Well, I cann't talk to you now, I have to go into a meeting soon.

Me: Oh, so could I call you later? or perhaps another day?

Lady on the phone: No, I'll call you tomorrow.

Me: hmm..but tomorrow is Saturday.

Lady on the phone: (PAAAUUUUUSE again) Monday.

Me: Maybe I could call you instead at a particular time?

Lady on the phone: No. I would call you.

Me: Alright, then.

Lady on the phone: Bye bye.

GRRAWWWWWWWHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
What the heck is wrong with her?
I mean who in the right mind would do a frigging phone interview on a BUS?!?! AND WHO calls someone up just RANDOMLY out of nowhere with no e-mail or making an appointment first? I explained my situation politely and it's WITHIN REASON!

And seriously...what is with the attitude?

Yes, P company is like this dream company for me. BUT, if P company has got this kind of ppl in it, I don't think I want to work there. I thought human resource people are supposed to have GOOOOOD (if not excellent) telephone skills? If you millionaires out there are the CEO of some kick-ass companies, please make sure you have GOOOOOD (if not excellent) human resources people. They are the people that outsiders first interact with, and like it or not, it gives the first vibes of the company.

Now I just think P company ppl are obnoxious. But what to do right? My application's fate lies in her hands. And I bet thousands of people are applying. A drop in the ocean indeed.

The other interview I had today was on the opposite hand, really pleasant. It's not some fancy shwancy huuuuuge conglomerate well-known company in the industry, but the people were nice, warm and really friendly. BUT...it's soooooo farrrrrrrr (mississauga vs markam. DAMN!!)

anywayz, back to the topic.
yes, big company vs small organizations. Each have their perks and downfalls. You probably won't get anywhere big by being in small organizations. But you get to learn more, be involved more, see more, and accept more challenges and take on more responsibilities than you could in a huge-ass international company. I don't think I would ever get to see the Director of P company and have the chance to chat with him one-on-one.

So would you want to...
在大寺庙里做小和尚, 还是小寺庙里做大和尚呢?

Oh yeah..but the thing is, 大寺庙也看不起我这个小和尚。 要当也没得当。

first official snowfall!!

It's the first official snowfall today!! Well it's the first time it snowed so much in a very short period of time. aaahhhh...it's times like a FIRST snowfall in the season that really makes you give out a sigh and truly appreciate the beauty of nature and something so pure. The whole neighbourhood is enveloped in this soft, velvet, fine snow. I'll take a photo tomorrow morning :)

BUT...

The scary thing about snowfalls is that it's easy for a car to skid sometimes :S When I was driving just now, I skidded (small ones) twice. Eeeeek... just like my mom said, it makes you feel so helpless, and the only thing to do is drive really slowly, don't break too heavily, and ya...in the case of my mom, don't freak out.

BUT again...

I really wanna enjoy this first snowfall. The view at markham is something I don't usually see when I lived downtown. There are just larrrrge patches of undisturbed snow lying around. Makes me wanna make snow angels :)

luffluff~~

just a thought

If your life could be played as 20min episodes (the consequence of watching too much anime), what would each of your episodes look like?

hmmm...

a girl with disheveled hair sitting at the computer.
furrowed brows.
concentrating hard on the monitor in front of her.
sometimes letting out a laugh.
criss-crossing her legs now and then.
sometimes writing, sometimes typing away furiously.

how excitinkkk~~

updates updates

Eaton Center

so i see the cobwebs on this blog. Time for updates!

THE Ipod Touch - iMee2

Taken from: www.apple.com

At first the bf got me the apple green nano iPod. Then we realized that the wheel doesn't work if we put on the overall protector. So we thought there's a fault in our nano. To cut the long story short, we ended up getting the iTouch instead :) It's such a sleeeeeek piece of gadget!! You know I've always been on the fence with the whole touchscreen concept, and I had always thought it's kinda difficult to type on a touchscreen since my fingers aren't exactly stick-thin. BUT, apple has really proved me wrong though I still get a bit irritated when my screen is full of fingerprints :P when you type on your iTouch, it's installed with this smart technology/program that recognizes what you are trying to type even though what you typed could be totally unrecognizable, something like 'dictionary' on cellphones.

THE haircut
I chopped off my long hair to about shoulder length. The head certainly feels much lighter lol. Been wanting to cut my hair for the longest time, mainly cos I seem to be losing more hair than usual since I moved back home. Might have something to do with me being not used to the water at home. Cos when I just got to Canada, I lost more hair than usual as well, and my colleagues that time said could be due to the difference in water content between Singapore and Canada. Apparently takes time for your scalp to get used to different water? O vell...
Before

After

The hair is kinda shorter than I expected but at least the hairdresser did a good job :)

THE job search
I might very well be the last person left that haven't found a job yet. =.=
It's depressing. Maybe I'm just not trying hard enough.

THE state of living at home
Yes, still complaining. STILL not used to living at home yet. Sigh... I want to be closer to my parents. I want to. But sometimes the things they say is just so discouraging. You tell yourself that you shouldn't be affected by what they say, and just live your life as you best could. It is your own life afterall, right? But... I'll be lying if I said I am totally unaffected.

Sometimes...all I need is some encouragement and support. Seems like it's really hard to get. If you want me to be a grownup, treat me like one. And not just when it is convenient for you.

So what have I been doing?
watching anime online. Mainly One Piece. It's SOOO GOOOOOOOOD.
studying for GMAT. Hoping to take the exam some time in December.
Trying not to die from sianess at home.
Trying to stay out of 'trouble'.

that's all folks.

Happy Halloween!!

2008.

Happy Halloweeeeeen!! So what is your costume this year? :)

21 October 2008

it's SNOWING!!!

It's snowing in mid-october. What has the world come to?!?! A layer of snow lies on top of the roof. I'm wearing my thick winter jacket. Oh Mi God. It's gonna be 6 months of winter!!!!! Don't know how I'm gonna get through it =.= I AM all ready, in fact, to start wearing all the nice autumn jackets and sweaters. BUT...I wasn't ready to wear my winter stuff yet!! I needa get some really ice-gripping winter boots :( I thgt I could survive on my fall stuff for a few more months. meh.

new glasses

my fingers are literally frozen right now cos it just snowed outside, and i just got back from driving mom to work. ITS SO COLD!! and WHY IS IT SNOWING IN OCTOBER?!?! the consequences of not wearing gloves :( We didn't realize it was snowing till we went out. BUt now its stopped, and replaced by those chilly wind that goes right through your spine :(

On to happier news....I've got new glasses!!! YAY!! finally the kind that I want. yeah, I've always wanted those kind of designs, but my Dad kinda hates it =.= He was the one that wanted to get me those glasses design when I first started wearing glasses loh...I don't get the mind change. BUT since I passed my G test with flying colours plus rainbow (yes..thick-skinned I know), my mom decided that I CAN get whatever design I want :P Plus this pair has got a nose piece! So the glasses isnt resting on my cheek, which usually does for this kind of designs (without the nose piece). Now I just wanna get a slight adjustment for those glasses...it gets just a bit lop-sided. Pacific mall is so near yet so far..grrrrr. And DEFINITELY DON"T WANNA drive there in this kind of gloomy weather conditions :P

Just re-read what I typed. I feel like I repeated 'glasses' a whole lot, and something is a bit weird about my sentence structure too. I attribute that to my brain freeze and finger freeze XD

p.s. I look fob. lol.

09 October 2008

I've got my G yo!

Yes, I got my G license at 1.35p.m. October 8th 2008! What an auspicious date right? I know, totally agree :P But didn't really have a choice in the date though, I just got lucky.

But it wasn't THAT auspicious and bright to begin with. It's the ONLY day in the week that has rain =.= and it rained heavily when I just got onto the highway. Talk about timing huh?

I did my signal lights check at about 10a.m. And my mom realized that the middle brake light wasnt working =.= FREAK!!! yes, I nearly freaked out, cos if my brake lights arent working properly, I CANNOT take the test :( and half of my register fees would be gone :( :( We tried to borrow a car from my mom's friend, but obviously umm that's not really gonna happen. Not to say anything bad about the friend though :) I totally understand. But my mom got a bit offended. LOL.

We mad rushed to the Nissan mechanics. I pleaded with them, telling them its my G exam today. They were so sweet and kept saying good luck to my BIG DAY!!! Yes...it's HUGE in Canada when you get ur G driver's license :P And they rushed it out for me in 30min!! Despite the bad experiences my dad had with them in the past, I totally LOVED them today. XD Yes, girls are fickle, whatever....

But all in all...it all ended well :) who said girls cann't drive?

the awesome 22' acer desktop

yes, the SO super duper awesome looking 22' acer desktop is gonna be RETURNED.

I did its first reformat within 14 days of purchasing it.

I have NEVER done a reformat that early in the life of my computers. Yes, I complain a butt-load about that cranky old computer that my dad uses and refuses to throw away. BUT that computer served us well and dandy for a good couple of years before it started getting real cranky I tell ya.

So yes...back to the shops it will. Gotta love consumerism in North America.
